Location: Gratsch was a separate municipality until December 1923, when it was incorporated into the municipality of Merano. Today, Gratsch has around 600 inhabitants and belongs to the parish of St. Peter - Gratsch.

The fortifications of Gratsch, which served to protect against flooding and high water, are considered to be the first in Tyrol. Originally, Gratsch was characterized by meadows, later also wine and especially apples were cultivated.

According to legend, there was also a "small rose garden" in the Gratsch area, which is said to have been located between Thurnstein Castle, Martinsbrunn, Walknerhof and Küchelberg. A road was built through this area at the beginning of the 20th century, which was to bear the name "Laurinstrasse".

The church in Gratsch dates back to the 14th century. However, the church in Gratsch has existed in its present form since the 17th century. Village life in Gratsch is enlivened by several associations such as the music band and the theater club. Gratsch is also known for its popular walking paths and promenades along the mountain.
